Senior Interior Designer

At Kara Childress, Inc., our 42-year legacy is a reflection of our enduring commitment to excellence and the trust relationships we have built with clients and collaborators alike. As a close-knit team, we are dedicated to creating homes that are not only beautiful but deeply personal. We believe in the power of craftsmanship, the magic of a well-placed antique, and the stories that interiors can tell. Our work is defined by a sophisticated mix—thoughtfully layered to balance history, artistry, and modern elegance.

We are seeking a Senior Interior Designer to join our team—someone with the expertise, creativity, and leadership to oversee high-end residential projects from concept to completion. This role requires a hands-on, technically skilled designer who thrives in a collaborative environment and is deeply engaged in every phase of the design process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently lead and manage 4 - 6 luxury residential projects per year, overseeing all phases from inception through design development, construction documentation, and installation.
  • Guide and mentor junior and intermediate designers, fostering a collaborative and dynamic team.
  • Develop and present detailed design concepts, including sketches, 2D/3D elevations, AutoCAD drawings, and material boards.
  • Oversee custom construction details, coordinating with architects, builders, and artisans to ensure seamless execution.
  • Attend site meetings with contractors and trades, providing direction, problem-solving, and ensuring design intent is upheld.
  • Manage purchasing and logistics, including proposal development, procurement tracking, and vendor coordination to maintain budget and timeline integrity.
  • Source bespoke furnishings, antiques, and custom-designed pieces that align with our firm’s aesthetic and client vision.
  • Maintain and expand upon relationships with fabricators, artisans, and industry partners.
  • Stay informed on design trends, materials, and industry innovations to enhance project quality and creative development.

Qualifications and Expertise:

  • 3+ years of experience in high-end residential design.
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD with the ability to develop architectural plans and elevations.
  • Expertise in custom construction and the ability to confidently lead on-site meetings with contractors and trades.
  • A talent for storytelling through interiors, with a passion for curating homes that are meaningful and layered.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, allowing you to work seamlessly with clients, colleagues, and industry partners.
  • Experience with purchasing and logistics, ensuring projects stay on track from concept to installation.
  • A kind, patient, and flexible approach, with a solutions-driven mindset.
